At
the age of twelve, Simon was already playing and recording in his
dad's (Sid Phillips) Dixieland band. Since tehn, Simon has
toured and recorded with many bands and artists, including: Mick
Jagger, The Who, Jeff Beck, Jack Bruce, Peter Gabriel, Joe Satriani,
Tears for Fears, Judas Priest, Roxy Music, Michael Schenker, Nik
Kershaw, Phd., Al DiMeola, 801, Pete Townshend, Russ Ballard, Robert
Palmer, Stanley Clarke, The Pretenders, Jon Anderson, Whitesnake,
and many more.
In 1992 Simon made the move from England to the USA, joining the band Toto for
their world tour. He wound up staying on as their full
time drummer.
In 1997 he took a leave of absence from Toto to tour Europe, Japan
and The USA with his
own band, playing his own music.
The
following year found him back recording and touring with Toto again.
Simon
Phillips is a versatile musician whose experience in the business
runs the gamut from drumming to songwriting to
producing and engineering. He is also at home playing various musical
styles from pop to rock to straight ahead jazz.
