hi everyone.
major frustrations here, i'm a lefty and i want to get a double bass pedal. my problem is there are alot of pedals for righties and only a few are listed as lefty models. i want a direct drive double, but the ones available for lefties are expensive. should i just buy the one i am interested in in the righty model take it apart and reassemble it as a lefty? or will that cause problems?
what would you guys do?

Have you looked at the Yamaha ones? They are easy to take apart and make into righty models, if they don't do lefties.

do you know first hand? i'm willing to take one apart and reassemble it for a lefty model. its just alot of cash if it can't be done!

I looked at my double set - there is the fitting for the spring on both sides of each pedal, but the pedal with 2 beaters on has the 2nd beater to the left. So no, it won't reassemble as a lefty. I spoke too soon.
I am pretty sure they do that model as a lefty pedal though - check out their website.

i love yammy pedals so i will thanks Alistair. i have a single direct drive FD yammy, i just wish i could get that as a double lefty. but i figure i'll get the chain version.

They make a leftie Flying Dragon.You can also get lefties in pretty near any Tama and DW models and also in Mapex pedals.
They all make them. Those are usually ones that have to be ordered in. Pearl also make leftie pedals. Shouldn't be a problem at all.

thanks roger thats true. i was hoping for a direct drive which i can't find in a lefty, i don't mind the special order stuff. axis and trick are to costly for me so they're out. i wrote to gibraltar the DON'T offer a lefty, and said they CAN'T be converted. that's why i originaly asked you guys the question. thanks everybody.

Well, I know for a fact Tama make lefty doubles. Also DW do in most of their series. I've definitley seen the 7000 series in lefty and also the new 8000 series. I have also seen lefty pedals in Mapex played not only by in the trenches players but also by clinicians. Same with Pearl.Axis and Trick of course are insanely priced but are, fantastic pedals for those whom they suit. I've seen Rod Morgenstein using the old 5000 DWs with strap dive a number of years ago. It seems to me that the new Sonor pedals with the actual mallet unit in the middle and the peadals each side would be a bit of a winner for you. They are very fast and can be used by either a rightie or a leftie. I've played on those things. They are fast. Forgotten what they actually call those pedals, the bass drum sits dead in the middle of the setup. The pedals are both sides. No special order there. They do the job from the start.

Wow - I hadn't really thought about it before, but the Sonor ambidexterous design is great! I've never tried one but good to know they actually work so well.
