Left Hand Rides
      #28247 - Sat Dec 27 2003 06:18 PM (199.64.0.252)

I'm thinking of adding a ride up to the left of my hi-hats, I was wondering if anybody uses this placement of the ride on there setup.

Dom Famularo (of Vic Firth Cyber Lessons) uses a ride on the left side. You should check him out, he's a good guy and a great drummer.

Everyonce in a while if im playing blues I like to put my sizzle ride on the left. It's great to get the coordination. I could only play the jazz ride rythem with my left hand becuase I always check my tips in the middle of songs in our jazz group so I still have to keep the beat going. I do recomend doing this, it will free up your other hand for alot of tom rythems. Have fun and good luck.

From time to time I've placed a flat ride in the position you're talking about, and found some neat musical opportunities in the songs we were playing. It also helped me to nudge me independence along a bit by playing the ride patterns with my left hand, a la Carter Beauford.
