The Z's are the heaviest overall series, designed generally for the super-hard hitters. A Custom, while certainly having some powerful cymbals in it, tends to be a more versatile sound palette.
You might do well to check out the Zildjian website. Go to their Artists Setups page and see if you can find some guys you are into and see what they are using.
