how do you keep in shape?

how does every one keep in shape(or do you)?for me "life" had always kept me fit, work, play, moving myself friends and familly, drumming. but now i've gotten older and settled down, friends and family have too. i still drum and work, but i now know i need to exercise.i've gone to a gym in the past that's "boring",exercise machines just get really dusty in my house.what are some fun ways to keep in shape?

I study karate with my 5 children. Class is only one day a week, but I practice in between, and do my push-ups and crunches, otherwise, I die in class.

Re: how do you keep in shape?

I schedule a time to go for a run at least twice a week - I don't want to run before, but I make myself! After about 5 minutes, I forgot that I didn't want to go for a run!
I also do weights about twice a week as well, just to keep my muscles in shape.
Fire Service training once a week can be hard.
Keep the variety in your exercises, and do things you like:
i.e. if you don't like water, don't go swimming!
Liven things up sometimes - if you can go running on a beach/sand, then do it, it's good for your ankle strength!
Start off slowly, and always stretch!
What sort of things do you like? Mental games? Water? Speed? Having some idea of your likes/dislikes would be useful to give you some suggestions...

Re: how do you keep in shape?

I always found walking good. That naturally leads to jogging or running at a faster pace. Tai Chi and Yoga might look easy, but they will both surprise you. Cycling also keeps one in shape. Eating properly is a must too. Try to avoid foods that feel heavy after you've eaten them. If what you've eaten makes you feel like taking a nap, that's not something you should be eating before a gig. And as Alistair said... Always stretch! That goes for playing drums too. If you go on cold, you could do serious damage to the muscles you most depend on.

I exercise really hard with my XBOX 360. It helps my finger dexterity. hehe

Re: how do you keep in shape?

Wii is the best video gaming system ever made for getting and keeping in shape. And many of the games develop your coordination and speed, which will directly improve your drumming skills! Having fun while improving your drumming... You can't beat that!

I take the dog or a 10k run most mornings. That's been on hold this week while assignments are being done, though. I'm dreading tomorrow, when I get back into it...

the dread will end once you begin!

i've been doing the gym about 3months now, i've even lost 30lbs. and i think my bass drum technique is better because of it. and my playing in general is much more fluid.

Re: how do you keep in shape?

My routine suffers in the winter but now I'm back into cardio on the eliptical 45-50 minutes, 2-3 times a week with swimming thrown in 10-20 laps...
