It took 30 years of corporatist fascism to destroy the world economy, it will take 30 years to undo the damage! 1 down, 29 to go! Now, it's time for the billionaire bankers to pay their fair share in taxes, balance the budget and give the middle class a break.

Sorry to break the flow, as it were.
I was wondering why Americans seem so opposed to the healthcare plan suggested by el Presidente? Surely free/subsidised healthcare would be a blessing for those too poor to afford insurance?

Because the U.S. is broke for one thing. Health care is not a right...it is a service...why should it be free...do you work for free? Socialized medicine doesn't work. Ask the canadians. They draw lottery numbers to see who even gets an appointment with a doctor. a good example of how it financially doesn't work is medicare and medicade...totally broke. Now the socialists here want to expand the same thing that doesn't work to millions more. Do the math, count the doctors...there's no money etc.. Health care is a service and should not become an entitlement. It's never free anyway....big guv just bleeds the people for more taxes.

I know it's never free - taxes pay for a lot of things, we seem to be taxed on about 30% of our income in NZ, but doctor's visits only cost $15, and for children it's free.
Of course the doctors' salaries are paid for by the government, no-one would work for free!
Our Ambulance service is basically a charity, but there is only one type and they serve their communities, regardless of insurance. The other services (fire/police) are government funded.
