I won this DVD for the monthly prizes here at this site and believe me I was so impressed with the fact that I had actually won something(I never win anything). I didn't believe it until I got the DVD in the mail like five days later! Anyway, thamks to Tigerbill and the guys from Warner Bros for the DVD, here is my review of it. This DVD is packed with drumming from Marco, over 4 hours of it! Includes, musical and solo performances mixed in 5.1 surround sound, educational sessions, demonstrations, special guests Wolfgang Schmid(Bass) and Steve Hamilton(Piano), biographies, discography, photo gallery, behind the scenes of the making of the DVD, interactive drum setup, DVD-ROM which features internet connectivity, MP3 downloads, printable lessons, drum charts, and transcriptions. I must attest that this drummer is an amazing person behind the kit and he seems to be an honest joe also, he's not all high on himself. Well, there you have it, I think this is a definate plus to anyone's collection of Drummer DVDs. Bounce.

OKAY...my brain hurts. No, I don't mean that I have a headache. I mean that, after watching the entirety of this DVD...my BRAIN HURTS!!!
I've been working out of Marco's book for a year now, and have truly met with very pleasing results. Now, having seen the source of this text in action, I have a whole new understanding of what this book can ULTIMATELY be about. Not that I'll ever GET THERE, but having the ideal in mind is a nice dream to carry!!!
To start with, Marco is a consummate musician. Yes, not just a drummer with chops beyond dreams, Marco is a functional multi-instrumentalist who explains how he conceived/ composed all of the songs contained in this package...there are many, they are not easy, but they are SO COOL!!! He is yet another result of the far-reaching influence of the late great Zappa, and all of the varied influences HE embodied.
The menu of viewing options on the disc is great. You can put it in and let it run, with a breakdown of each song following, or you can put it in at "performance only" mode without the explanations. There is some great material on excerpts from his book, introduction interviews with the AWESOME pianist (Steve Hamilton, Earthworks) and bassist (Wolfgang Schmid, Passport) who accompany him on many of the tracks, and behind the scenes "making of" vid's/ pic's (including the illustrious Rick Gratton).
Bottom line: GET this DVD. I work in a building full of professional musicians. Every time I put this DVD into our player during lunch, a crowd gathers in observational silence. When they ask me about what Marco is doing, my simple (and humorous) answer is: "I don't know exactly what he's doing, but I'm pretty sure I can't do that yet.".
I'm done.

I've had the dvd for about 2 years now and it still amazes me. I love when he uses the sample voices from the Simpsons and Family Guy and plays them in 19/16 or 7/8,etc,etc. Great video I must say. It will give everyone a new perspective in drumming.
