Vibe mallets
      #24594 - Sat May 13 2006 05:52 PM (64.12.117.7)

im in an ensamble with 3 other keyboarders. there is vibes(me), marimba 1,marimba 2(bass line), and xylo.

anyway,
i have the 4 mallet part and am using 2 diffrent sets of mallets (i was lucky to even get 4)the logos are worn away so i dont know what they are. but they are not loud enough. my dirrector sayed to try harder ones and i grabes the ones marimba 1 was using, which are vic firth M 71, and he sayed he would order 2 pairs of them for me.

does any one have any other sudgestions or will the M 71's work?

thanks.

Just a guess - is the tune you're doing "Metric Lips"?

My high school ensemble is doing that and our vibe player is using the Innovative Field series, RFS420. I also like the Malletech Stadium series, the SM15V.

I'm the percussion teacher, not a student. Stephenville HS. We'll be in Austin on the 29th for TSSEC, so maybe I'll see you there.

Both those models are designed for outside, marching band pit work and specially for vibes, so yes, they project very well. You will still need to play with proper technique to be heard, though.

If you're going to San Marcos, your school must be 3A or smaller. 4A and 5A go to the University of Texas for state contest.

Hope things work out for you, it's a shame to win the honor of performing at the state level and not get to go.

Also, a side note, have you listened to the original version that David Steinquest arranged Metric Lips from? The band is Newgrass Revival, the band that Bela Fleck started with. It's very enlightening to hear the original with banjo, mandolin and guitar.

our scholl is a 3A.
i have heard the original song, and its pretty fast. we've played around and trighed to play it supper fast and the xylo sounds like chimpmunks when you play a casset in fast foward.

i think we found another play that can play the part. we just have to wate for our dirrector to give him the OK.
