Pick ups
      #25305 - Mon May 22 2006 05:48 PM (69.149.46.200)

Hi, has anyone here had much experiance with pickups, such as the K&K? I been using condencer mics for my marimba with pretty good results, but it seems that pickups would be alot easier to deal with. About how do such systems cost? Thanks!

I just wanted to chime in briefly - I've been up to my eyeballs in steel pan work recently, but I do intend to come back to this thread and offer my thoughts about my experiences using pickups on my vibraphone over the past ten years or so. The short answer: my impression is positive overall, with one or two minor caveats. I'll go into further detail when I have a few minutes to sit and write (hopefully, that will be tomorrow!)

the K&K are very fine with a few snags but generally a very good system. I used them along with the MIDI setup. I used the pickups on Vibes and Marimba. Deiter and Karla are great people tp work with. I have a picture of the Vibe pickup on my website www.whitehousepercussion.com on a portable frame I made at that time.
