Roland V's
      #26988 - Sat Feb 01 2003 02:29 PM (24.117.226.93)

Well I just got my Roland V-sessions that my wife got me for my B-day and I must say I'm blown away. One of my buddies and I were jamming last nite and he made the comment of how much quicker I sounded. I thought about it for a second and got to noticeing that the sensitivity on these are touchier than a Dr. Phil interviewee. I don't feel like I have to "milk" the sound out of em like I do my acoustics. I can just sit back and relax and let the amp do the work. Accents seem to be much easier to do also.

Still I feel like I'm going to have to go back to school and get another undergrad degree to figure out how to work all the different varibles that can be manipulated. So far though I'm feeling on top of world. I swear I'm getting more excitement out of these than if my wife walked in wearing a white teddy and garder. I ask ya, what other activity can claim that? Isn't drumm'n great!

The V's are great! I use both E drums and acoustic. Really like the silent mesh heads and ability to run the drums in a PA and have unlimited head room without feedback especially with the kick. Can practice until 3 am with disturbing anyone. Recording with E drums are great. Electronic drums have come a long long way in the last ten years. I would recommend electronic drums now a days for live or practice. I really enjoy my E Drums alot.

Zacker-

It's the TD-10 with the TDW-1 expansion. My wife did good! It's a used set, but everything works great. She got the amp to go with it too. K-3 or something, I can't remember. It will literally make the house vibrate when you crank it up. Saaa weet!

I have the Roland V consert set. I like being able to play live at any volume depending on the room and also listen to my self through the head phones ( get good ones it is worth it) In practace I can run a click to my self with out it coming through the amp. It was a lot of money 5Gs but man if you can aford it! what a great tool lots to play with...more sounds than i know what to do with!

I've also played on the roland V sessions. and man did I like it. The fact that I could add a bass line as a backround trak just by hitting the crash was enough to to get my applause. I highly recommend buying a set if you have the means. The set I looked at was close to 5,000. I'm just glad I got to play on them

Thanx

Loving the V drums. I do have a question thou... The set I'm playing is a few years old and is pre TDW- 1 (or whatever) expansion board. Has anyone out there played a set both with and without the expansion? If so, do the new features make it worth the bucks to update?

I jacked around with mine before installing the expansion, but only for about a day or two so my knowledge is limited. The main thing is the V-cymbal applications and you'll go from 50 drum sets to 100, but the possibilities for manipulation is limitless. Once you expand though, you can't go back to the TD-10. I'll keep jacking with this and let ya know if I come up with anything else. I've only had these suckers a week so my learning curve is still pretty steep. I'm sure someone else has more in-depth knowledge on this.

IMO- the tom and cymbal samples in the TW-1 are much better than the ones in the original TD-10. I had my kit about 6 months before the expansion came out and when I got it I was very pleased. I wish Roland would make an expansion card that was just the best drumkit and cymbal samples they could fit in the ROM and leave off the cheesy special effects. I like the ddrum samples but prefer the Roland's playability and programming.

I can't stand electric drumming! It makes you lazy
of course and sure it has great sounds that are confestionate; but leave that up to the someone else to do all that... or I'll get to it seperately. Those electric drums give you a false sence of timing, not to mention you lose your feel of creativity. Yes they mic well, but I'm telling you again thaey make you lazy... thats why I'm out playing alot of my friends I use acoustic the real deal we get together just to do acoustic and they flat out can't compete and I'm a girl ha ha! I would only use V-drums etc. as an addition and that's it! It can never really, really substitute for the real thing! No matter howw many waves you match! Peace!
