Hi! I am really interested in buying 1 maybe 2 drum vids but have know idea where to start looking!
So i was wondering if you guys have any knowledge of some drum vids that are great for all styles of drumming but still MAINLY focus on technique and beginners.
Also, I have never had lessons cos I cannot afford them so maybe something that could 'replace'(if you will!) lessons.
Am I being too vage? Not sure...Any help is much appreciated!
Cheers! Rob xxx
If this helps...I love travis barker's style(unoriginal I know but what the hay!)

Rob: I'd say that the Dave Weckl and Kenny Arnoff tapes are great videos. Ed Thigpen's tape on brushes is fantastic. Peter Erskin's timekeeping tape is good for almost any style of drumming. I personally am anxious to get TigerBill's upcoming DVD.

The two best videos I've ever seen are Gary Chaffee's "Phrasing and Motion" and "Sticking Time Linear Time, Rhythm and Motion." Gary is one of the great inovators and teacher of such players as Vinnie Coliauta and Steve Smith.

I also have to cast my vote with the Steve Smith dvd set. GREAT package of both entertainment and instruction.
I would also strongly recommend Marco Minneman's dvd "Extreme Drumming". Believe me when I say that it isn't just a bunch of technical wankery; this vid is full of awesome drumming AND some GREAT music, as well as great insight as to Marco's approach to technique and writing.
If you want something technique oriented, the Jim Chapin video is one of my fav's. It's based on Moeller material, but taught in the way only a guy with Jim's years and wisdom can present it.

To answer the question, video's on technique for beginners i suggest "Laying it Down" by Kenny Aronoff and the Drum Tips video "Developing a Groove" to get you thinking and working on spicing up the basic beat.
