I've got about a Grand to spend on a new kit and would like to hear your opinions. I'm looking for something in maple (Pacific comes to mind), minimum 5 piece 10,12,14, 20 or 22. Hardware is not a big deal as I have a decent collection, as well as a complement of Zildian A's and a Z ride. I'm not all that familiar with the "mixed" wood shells, ie. Sonor, Mapex, etc. I'm not looking for the deal of the century however I want a kit that sounds good live that I will enjoy (who doesn't). I guess what I'm asking for is some unbiased opinions. I know Tiger Bill has been talking about the Taye stuff as of late, but I don't know their composition etc. Any and all help would be appreciated.
Thanks Brothers,
John

a little late, but a few weeks ago i was in your position almost exactly. i decided to go for the gretsch renown maple. they come in a lot of colors and are 100% maple. i got a great deal at guitar center (it came with a free gibraltar curved rack!)
