Hey,
I am interested in buying a new snare drum. I want one that projects really well with a high, cracking sound. If possible, I'd like one under $200. Would a piccolo snare be what I want? Any snare drums you know of?

for the drum you decribed i have 2 sugestions, both pearl snares. The pearl steel piccolo (about $99), and the chad smith signature snare ($169 i think) good luck

Most likely you need a steel or brass snare tuned high for that crack or use rim shots. Brass would be my choice as they project but retain a warmer sound than steel. Consider what you are using it for. A picollo may have limited use where a 6 1/2" is more useful for general use to play anywhere. Shop around, may be a better quality second hand one out there?
