Here's my review of Johhny Rabb's book (with audio CDs) of Jungle/Drum 'n' Bass A Guide to Applying Today's Electronic Music to the Drum Set.

Great book! I got it when it first came out and had a BLAST working through it. I've also used some of the earlier material in it to get beginning set students started; great gradual 4-way development primer. I've had the privilege of meeting Johnny a couple of times, and watching him jam on his kit at the Meinl booth at PASIC was a lesson unto itself.

I love this book!
Re the freehand technique section, I've seen a few video clips of Jojo Mayer where he demonstrates that the Moeller technique works just as effectively to produce fast sequences of notes within a jungle groove. Either way, you will have to work fairly hard to get your preferred technique to the point where you can naturally and comfortably play these groves up to speed.

Haven't bought the book yet, but had the pleasure of a one on one lesson with Johnny Rabb. He showed me the free hand technique and a few other cool things. I've also got a couple of his videos- I love his creative, groove oriented approach! He has definitely opened up my playing and my mind!
