I guess this is my first review. It concerns the Remo dampening system that was designed in conjunction with Dave Weckl. This is a beauty. I came across it in a local drum shop sitting on a used snare. At first glance it looked like a mechanical gate because it employs a piston-like plunger that pops up and down as the head is hit. It is attached to the batter rim with a very well thought out clamp. However, on purchase and usage I found that it did much more than just gating the sound. Not only did it get rid of the over-ring on my 7" deep fiber-glass snare but it still let the tone of the drum come through. The snare sound definitely increased and was crisper as well. Also its side effect was to greatly reduce any buzz from the snare when the shell toms were hit and also eliminated any snare buzz caused by the bass player. This small plunger-like device can be adjusted sideways as well as back and forth so that it can be moved to different positions on the head as well as being levelled properly on the head. This is one completely well thought through accessory and anyone who is resorting to tape, silicone tab, or any semi-permanent solution for over-ring, buzz or lack of control on their snare, especially the deeper snares, should have one of these. I might add that ghost notes are deluxe once you start using this little puppy.

Further to the above review here is the direct URL to Remo's page that the unit is on. http://www.remo.com/portal/products/2/610/612/ds_snare_damp.html

I can't seem to find it anywhere. Any suggestions on purchasing it in PA?

I guess you had better source some of the New York drum shops or order direct from the factory. They definitely have to be around. Dave Weckl endorses them.

Doesn't get in my way. I keep it close the the rim opposite me and even in brush work it doesn't interfere. But then again everyone is different. Some are bound to like it others will hate its guts. We are all different. Sonically it works like a charm. That being proven to me I made any adjustments that had to be made unconsciously.
