Surprised by Tiger's Pintech Echo review.

I have to admit that I'm a bit shocked that the Pintech Echo kit got such a glowing review from Tiger Bill. I have used Dingbats for cowbell or woodblock triggers, but I can't imagine using one as a snare or hi-hat trigger. These are hard rubber on metal. I would think that you'd be lucky not to be crippled after a week of playing these. I understand the enthusiasm for reasonably priced entry level e-kits, but not with so much sacrifice in playability. Since I haven't played an echo kit myself, I'll defer to Tiger's objectivism for now. However, I'm very surprised at the review.

I don't understand why you would think that playing on a hard rubber surface mounted on a steel pipe would hurt your hands? The only way playing on a hard surface could damage your hands is if you are using the wrong technique.

The rebound from Dingbats, while not as pronounced as a mesh head or actual drum head, allows enough of a rebound to use my Tension-Free techniques (Gladstone, etc.) without any difficulty. As you can see on the video, both of my kids were playing the Dingbats as well and had no problems using their technique and we had (and tested) the kit for nearly a month before taping the video.

The kit is not meant to replace a your usual drumset completely but it does make a great additional kit to throw in the car to take to the local club gig (providing your not playing Heavy Metal!) rather than carting all of your usual stuff. And it's a great little kit to keep your hands and feet in shape and work on coordination if you live in an apartment house with little room for gear and neighbors who don't like the noise of an acoustic kit.
