The cats you are talking about are all facets on the mirror ball of modern pop/rock. Apart they are just little mirrors. Each with their own sparkle. Together they are what we play today. They cannot be compared to each other as to how they would play in each others' bands. However they were the RIGHT cats to create each bands' drumming at the time. Another is Baker. None of those other cats would have suited Cream. Neither would Ginger have worked well in any of the other bands. Classic case of "if the shoe fits...wear it." When it comes to specialty cars you build the engine that fits that specific car. Same with drummers. Try to exchange engines and the balance is gone.

Roger, Cream is a great example. All the musicians had previously worked with other great and gifted musicians, even with each other. But until the three worked as a single band, that spark of magic didn't kick in and ignite things.

I agree Tea! Because of your post, I had to listen to a Beatles' CD on the way to work today (didn't mind at all though). I'm glad you talked about "I Feel Fine" because I remember YEARS ago trying to figure that one out. I also like the beat on "Ticket to Ride". Sort of similar.
I have also read Purdie's claims and heard those stories over the years. I read one time that Paul played drums on "Back in the USSR" because Ringo was unavailable at the moment (whatever that meant).
My older sister is a Beatlemaniac. So growing up I got great exposure to them. She also had every article written she could find about them. I'm a big fan too.
I'm curious. Did Paul mention in the book anything about the rumours of his death? Remember all the clues on the album covers (Sgt. Peppers and Abby Road). I think it was on Strawberry Fields Forever you can hear John saying "I buried Paul". There were others, but I can't remember them right now.
Thanks for the ride down memory lane. RINGO RULES!

I haven't read the whole book as its big, but I'm sure I'll get to it. It's an excellent read that you can probably find at a library, as it came out in in the mid 90s. It really is a great trip down memory lane! Apart form the tales of how they came to be, Paul practically goes through each song and talks about who did what and what happened etc.
That 'I Feel Fine' pattern took me a while to get down, as it's kind of upside down in terms of the backbeat.. and the fast little roll on the bell in the pattern. Its where I discovered I could play the bell pattern a lot easier using my first finger and thumb (my old standard grip) rather then using the 2nd finger fulcrum. I still find I get finer bounce control for some things using the old first finger grip (like buzz rolls).
The Beatles songbook is just unbelievable.. I can't think of a single band that has written so many hits. I kind of feel like I was really lucky to have been around when the Beatles were such a phenomenon. I'm sure if Mozart was around at the time he'd have been doing the same thing!

The Beatles clip was lip-sync. It did appear RS can play the drum part.
