Vic Firth Stereo Isolation Headphones
      #38731 - Tue Apr 17 2007 07:16 AM (24.67.253.209)

For those of you that have struggled with crappy discman/stereo's, ill headphones, and noisy drumkits that have made it near impossible to enjoy playing along with music, let alone hearing it, these headphones are for you. Ever since I was twelve years old I've been trying heedlessly to play to songs on crappy stereo systems whose volume knobs just couldn't hack it.

Along comes Vic Firth Isolation headphones (http://www.vicfirth.com/products/headphones.html) these badass headphones cut external sound by 24 decibels leaving your ears intact and allowing you to comfortably hear EVERY nook and crany of the music. I now spend so many hours playing along to my favorite tracks that my ears get sore in the headphones. (which is the only downfall of the product)

Now, no more hunting for earplugs to wear, no more cranking up the volume to ear shattering levels, and no more searching for the music over the roar of my drum kit. I have to literally make sure the music isn't too loud in the headphones because it will drown out the drumkit.

So, a brief summary, Vic Firth Stereo Isolation headphones will cut enough external sound from your drumkit to comfortably allow you to play to music you can hear completley.

These are practically a must buy.

Thanks for the review Isis. I have been looking at headphones online lately and now I have another set to consider.

Did you buy from a store or order online? If online, which site?

I got mine from a local store, but they have them on for really cheap on www.musiciansfriend.com. If you go to www.vicfirth.com - products tap - education- heaphones it will give you a set of sites you can order from as well.

Isis, I'll second that! 24 decibel cut is huge and I've been using these headphones for a year now and can comfortably control volume with minimal ringing in my ears from input music while still, suprisingly, still have enough ambient sound coming through from the kit. In fact I like just wearing the phones even without music coming in purely to hear what the kit sounds like from a distance and protecting my ears. I did a bit of damage to my ears about 12 years ago when I used to play and rehearse with a Pearl Brass free floating snare--never again! This snare damaged my ears from their amazing gunshot crack, especially rim-shotting every stroke. If only had worn some sort of ear protection at the time. I've found that most ear protection devices tend to wreck the tones of tom tom and bass drum work but these Vic Firth head phones make it all sound great. Catchya

I have been using them for a few years now. They work great.
After I mike up the kit, I use it at my sub mixer to get the sound I want before sending it to the main sound board.
