Waltz ideas

Know any good waltzes?

My band is playing an upcoming wedding and the client has asked for 'lot's of waltzes' as a fair chunk of the crowd will be in the older age range. A real waltz is a 3/4 or 6/8 type of feel, but there are other 'slow dance' tunes that are in 4/4 which would also qualify.

So far going through our repertoire we have;
- Wonderful Tonight - Clapton
- Stand By Me
- Harvest Moon - Neil Young
- Take it to the Limit - Eagles
- Wicked Game - Chris Issak
- Something (Beatles)
- Unchained melody - Righteous Bros

Any other good ones anyone's had success with?

I'm not sure that a lot of those will pass as a waltz. Take it to the limit will. It has to be 3/4 time or have the same feel as Take it to the limit.
I don't know harvest moon or Wicked game to give an opinion. Maybe someone else will chime in.

Look up the Wedding waltz. Or Could I have this dance by Anne Murray. Should give you the beat you are after.
Another that could fit is Luther Vandross, Always and forever. This is the kind of stuff the old farts want. lol

Here are a few rock waltzes:

Three Times a Lady - Commodores
Open Arms - Journey
Mr. Bojangles - Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
Living and Dying in 3/4 Time - Jimmy Buffet
How Can I Be Sure - Rascals
Kiss From a Rose - Seal

And a few country tunes, if you're into that:

Songs About Rain - Gary Allen
Mamas, Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys - Willie Nelson
Here's A Quarter - Travis Tritt
Five Dollar Fine - Chris LeDoux
Amanda - Waylon Jennings
The Last Cheaters Waltz - T.J. Shepard (Probably not appropriate for a wedding - LOL)

Good luck, and have fun at the wedding.

Yes - we may be forced to become an Oom-Pa-Pa band - If only I can find my liederhosen in time..

I'm hoping by Waltz he means 'slow dances'.
Unchained melody is definitely waltz-like.
I think Elvis has a few:
3/4 'Are You Lonesome Tonight',
6/8 'Can't Help Falling in Love'

or the Honeydrippers - Sea of love

Gawd - I'm going to have to start a cheeze factory!

I'll check your suggestions - thanks!

Last night the guys pulled one out of their 'backpack' which works well;
- Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain - Willie Nelson

Other than Harvest Moon (which I don't know), none of those are waltzes. Waltzes are in 3 played at a dance tempo. Examples of pop songs played in 3 would include:

- Three Times a Lady, Commadors
- Norwegian Wood, Beatles
- Piano Man, Billy Joel
- Kiss From a Rose, Seal
- How Can I be Sure, Rascals
- Manic Depression, Hendrix
- It's all in the Game, Nat King Cole
- Take it to the Limit, Eagles

Hope that helps.
