I take it upon myself the sad task of reporting passing of Jake Hanna, if it has not already been done here.
Another knife in my heart! He was with Woody and later on as I remember was in the house band for the Merv Griffin show. Among many other credits.
Please take a moment to visit his Drummerworld page above.
I remember in the day from the ads in Downbeat mag and other places he was a noted and featured student of Stanley Spector (if any of you other senior guys remember)
Farewell, Jake!

I guess I'm ready to add my deep respects and sorrow at Jake's loss. He was at the very heart of all that is good about Jazz drumming and Jazz. A really fine cat in all respects. And boy did he know Music!! It is not mentioned anywhere that I have found on the Internet but he also worked with the Great Stan Kenton organization. I haven't heard that deep growly speaking voice he had for many a year but when I was very young coming up in the business I looked forward to hearing that voice and I'll miss that voice from now on. He's one of those cats I had hoped I'd see again sometime in the next while just one more time. Jake and Don Lamond played through many of the same bands and Don and Jake are two that I missed seeing again before they passed. I will always regret not seeking them out in the last ten years or so.

I remember reading an article about him in MD (probably several times over the years!), and he struck me as a guy with quite a story to tell. Talk about living the dream.. a very unique cat..

Jake always had stories to rell. He loved the life and loved the musicians he worked with. Always had humour in his stories. Just a suggestion of a twinkle of laughter in his eyes. Never got ruffled by anything.

A sad loss to the music industry and humanity in general.

RIP! I used to use Jake Hanna Jazz model Regal Tip drum sticks, back when Regal was making consistent quality sticks. Loved them.

Still have a box of those sticks. Still use them from time to time. Great sticks.

They still make them, and I use them from time to time myself still. So when you get your 4-piece kit back in the swing of your life use those sticks old friend.
