HOW TO KNOW TEMPOS BY HEART
      #47160 - Mon Jan 03 2011 03:30 AM (94.172.220.71)

Be able to count off at various tempos without a metronome.
Listen to these songs below often and sing along to the chorus parts. Memorise the bpm of each song. This will give you a broad spread of the most common range of tempos. For faster or slower tempos than those listed simply double or halve the appropriate song tempo from the list - e.g. for 160bpm sing the first cut is the deepest and then double the tempo. I've included a few song words to help. sing just these then count in e.g. 'it’s criminal how you can…1...2...3...4...'

BPM song title – artist ~ line

155 All My Lovin' – Beatles ~ Close your eyes and I’ll miss you
150 Crocodile Rock – Elton John ~ I remember when rock was …
145 Times Like These – Foo Fighters ~ it’s times like these you learn to live again…
140 Hard Day's Night – Beatles ~ it’s been a hard day’s night

125 Hail Caesar – AC/DC ~ all hail Caesar
120 Invisible Man – Queen ~ it’s criminal how you can…
115 Bad – Michael Jackson ~ you know I’m bad, I’m bad
110 Yellow Submarine – Beatles ~ we all live in the Yellow Submarine
105 Anybody Seen My Baby – Rolling Stones ~ has anybody seen my…
100 Aeroplane – Red Hot Chilli Peppers ~ I like pleasure spiked with pain…
95 The Look – Roxette ~ tasted like a raindrop, she's got the look
90 River Of Dreams – Billy Joel ~ in the middle of the night

Hey thanks - you saved me a lot of work! I started to do this a while back (see the thread 'the human metronome'..I started to memorize a handful of tunes/tempos but got sidetracked.

One thing I discovered recently (from a friend who was in a Trance band.. as a songwriter a lot of his stuff is in 140 trance speed. Knowing these tempo signposts can come in handy i.e., 'It's been a... 1-2-3-4!'
