Sad day but it had to happen eventually. He had a life to aspire to. A truly great man.

I knew the day had to come but it always seems to come too soon. Joe passed away on Saturday, March 12, at 9:30 am in the hospital. He had been having heart problems for a while. He was 82.

Joe changed my life forever. He was truly one of a kind.

My heart and prayers go out to Joe's wife, Jean.

God bless.

Tiger
Please accept my condolences for the passing of your friend and master teacher.
No words are good enough to describe how much the drumming community owes to Joe.
I true sensei indeed !

A sad day indeed - the legacy of Joe is immense. If I had just a fraction of his skills I would be one happy drummer! I am thankful that he took time to pass on his wisdom as well; my practice routines owe a lot to 'Master Studies'.

The loss of this drumming giant has left our world a little smaller. But as noted above, his legacy will endure in the thousands of students he has taught and the lessons he leaves behind.

RIP Joe Morello.

Like Tiger, my Life was changed dramatically in many ways because of Morello. And I'm going to miss that cat. He's the last of our true giants that paved the way for today's drumming except for one. There is still Roy Haynes. And he too one day soon will go on to where ever we go as drummers and free spirits in our craft and art form.
And for those who consciously or unconsiously passed Joe by or side-stepped his presence and gift of teaching either in real time or by not paying attention to his written and recorded works, you have missed the best ride you would ever have had in drumming. And I DO mean ride. And for those who knew him? Well that is truly an experience, NO, A HAPPENING AND EVENT, that is a one of a kind.
