It seems that deaf or blind musicians have an uncanny sense of musicality. One of my favorite drummers is Stevie Wonder because his groove is so deep and had a different feel than most drummers did back in the Motown era, IMO. I beleive what she said about the hearing is more that just the ears just as the mind is more than just in the head. I have a friend who is a deaf percussion player and he worked SO hard and is a better listener than most people I know. She's spot on about playing the music rather than what's on a sheet of paper.
