Sleishman Pros and cons

Hello

I plan to buy a free floating kilt : as Tama omnitune kit is too expensive for me and like the free floating concept of Sleishman so If you own a Sleishman, I would appreciate if you could tell me your opinion on these drums

Thanks

They are great drums, particulary their custom drums (the Jarrah/Maple combination is killer). The Omega line is a standard Maple shell (Keller I think)and doesn't deliver at quite the same standard (but cheaper). I do think they "sing" better than a non free floating drum.
The downside, for me, has always been they were just butt ugly. Custom gets you anything you want though.
The other downside with this and the omni tune is the batter head and resonant head are at the same tension. This limits (or simplifies) your tuning options.

Just re-reading you post, you were planning on buying a free floating KILT! Now that's a whole different ball game!

Cheers

Stuart, the Omni tune heads are individually tuned, top and bottom. They are not the same tension, unless you tune them that way.

On top of the Omni Tune there are 2 different sized lugs. One small and one large. On the bottom there is one large sized lug.

From the top, if you want to tune only the top, you turn the large lug. This has no effect on the bottom head.
You CAN tune the bottom head from the top by turning the small lug on the top. This has no effect on the top head.

I don't ever tune the bottom from the top side because you don't know what lug to turn if you don't turn the drum over to tap the head to see what one is out of tune. When I find the culprit, I just turn the lug right then and there on the bottom.

Sounds confusing, but it's easy.
