Hi hat maintenace
      #47533 - Wed Oct 12 2011 05:16 AM (129.42.208.188)

I must admit the last time I took a hihat apart for cleaning was probably my first Ludwig hat stand that I got from the original member of the 5 Man Electrical Band about 40 years ago(!). I still have it - and it still works fine. I have other hihats that I use for my regular playing however (Pearl, Premier, Yamaha), and up until now I've never had an issue with any of them.. however the Pearl hat has developed a bit of a squeak, and it doesn't feel as smooth as it once did.. so my question is what's the best thing to use for lubrication on both the chain and the inner parts (spring, rod shaft etc.).
I have a tube of white lithium grease.. (and a bit of elbow grease ready to go)
Thanks!

I just spray up the innards by shooting a little product known as Release All which can be got for about four bucks or so in a green, yellow and red spray can with a straw at Canadian Tire into the hi-hat stands. That stuff goes everywhere and literally releases any dry spots and stops squeaks etc. Stays around forever and doesn't mess up anything. I don't have to actually pull apart the stand at all. I just nail the thing by shooting that stuff in everywhere. Also really good for such things as windshield wiper motors and linkages and in the winter I make sure all my auto door locks and hinges etc are filled with the stuff. never get a freeze-up in the locks. Release-all. A Canadian product since the 1950s eh! Use it on your bass drum pedal(s), you'll be amazed at the pickup of the velocity and ease of playing.

Haw!! I seriously doubt that. But....it does work well and it's easy to apply.
