Never have that happen with the real thing you know. I'm just jagging you. Friendly pop so to speak. Let's face it, you have to deal with digital technology here. No short cuts. And of course it can be finnicky because it's really all about little tiny electric impulses etc, not laying a stick on a surface that reacts immediatley with human expression. Depends I guess if you are using a camera or you are painting a picture with a brush. Two different worlds really. I live in the artist's world I suppose.

It's all good Roger! All I can say is that the electronics will be in the storage room for the next practice session. Give me acoustics please!

I wasn't running it through a mixer. Direct into a powered p.a. speaker "Mackie Thump" that was right next to me. The drums were plenty loud, just not the cymbals.

the Mackie Thump Series Powered Loudspeakers deliver deep low-end
There you go. You used a loud speaker designed to deliver low end and expected to hear cymbals? You need a different monitor.

I don't see that happening in my future. Not when I have a couple of acoustic kits laying around. It was just an experiment. I guess if it's all I had, I would try to make it better. I don't really need the e-kit. I'll just continue to use it for messing around whenever I get the urge. At least we got to the(pun intended) "bottom" of it!

My TD-10 has sounds up the ying-yang.. you can model whatever kind of drum part you want; shell thickness, wood type, etc. etc. and the mesh heads have a better feel compared to the old rubber pads; and the multiple triggers for rimshots or whatever you want to assign them as are kind of cool.. and they do sound good through headphones - for electronic drums. But I'd never compare them to the sound and feel of real drums. In fact, I'm thinking of selling them and getting some Paiste ride and crash cymbals.

Paiste is good. I played them for years and loved them. Sounds like a good exchange. I'm not down on electronic pads. It's just that I feel they are a totally different instrument and will never take the place of real drums. Sort of glorified practice pads or something. Lots of great sounds and definitley a creative tool if used well. Just not drums although drummers play them. Having said all that I must confess I have done quite a bit of commercial ad stuff on Rolands. But I would never use them in a band live. But then again I'm an old cat and have been with real drums from the age of eight until the present and I'll be 72 the end of this year.

Roger, remember when the MOOG and ARP synthesizers came out? They were designed to replicate the sounds of strings and horns. Well, as we know, they never did, but they have become an instrument unto themselves now and are used in conjunction with Hammonds and Grand Pianos. That's how I see the e-drums going; not to REPLACE acoustics as such, but to ENHANCEthem!

True, very true. I've used e-drum heads and two or three pads in the studios for commercials mixed in with the full kit. I've even real timed them off my hi-hat foot and sequenced hand drum parts I started with the pads.
