Overall, 2011 has been an incredible year and a very special year, for a number of reasons. We've already seen the dates 1/1/11, 1/11/11, 11/1/11, and this Friday we've got 11/11/11! Some are calling it Nigel Tufnel day.
For those of you who don't know who Nigel is, he's the (fictional) rocker from the semi-fictional band "Spinal Tap" who likes to turn his guitar amp up to 11 when he needs that "extra push over the cliff!" I sometimes work with a guitarist who reminds me a lot of Nigel!
Whatever you do this Friday, I suggest you do it to the max! Turn it up to 11! And if you haven't seen the classic movie "Spinal Tap" yet, that would be the perfect thing to do tomorrow on Friday November 11, 2011 - 11/11/11!

I'll probably get up somewhere around 5:55:55 am, and find some restaurant with a numerically repetitive street address like 4444 to order me a 2-2-2 for breakfast. Then I'll just watch the time until 11:11:11 am, at which point I'll make sure to be playing some groove in 11-time on the drums, expecting something fractally amazing to happen with regard to the supposedly 11-dimensional universe we live in.

Nothing special for the day - teach in the afternoon, gig in the evening.
I don't have one, but if I did, I'd use an 11" snare drum on the gig.

In Canada, it's Remembrance Day and therefore a holiday. At the end of WW1 the armistice was signed on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day on the eleventh month. It's a time to remember the fallen who gave their lives for our freedom. 1914 - 1918, the "War to end all wars."

What did I do on 11/11/11? Went out in the torrential rain to honour past friends that didn't make it back. After that, went quietly back home and worked on some drumming thinking about days gone by with those same friends that didn't make it out.

Roger, if we were in the same town, I'd go shake your hand and buy you a coffee. Or better still, I'd invite you over and MAKE you a coffee!

I came to this entry late, but here's what I did do on 11/11/11. As the Commander of the Color Guard in my Marine Corps League Detachment, I organized and led a 7-man color guard in the Veterans Day Parade in my hometown. After a two-mile march on Main Street, the parade ended up at the Veterans Memorial Building, where I and three other Marine Corps League members posted the American and USMC flags inside the building, then retired the colors after all of the keynote speakers were finished. Oh, and the day before, on 11/10/11, I spoke at a local elementary school's assembly on the history of Veterans Day.
