For Christmas this year, my wife chose a new set of electric skillets as my gift to her, and told me to choose something for myself as her gift to me. That sounded like a deal I couldn't turn down. However, although there's a lot of gear I wouldn't mind having, there's really very little that I actually need. But I did think of something.
This afternoon I ordered a Ludwig P86 snare throw off, a set of PureSound 20 snare wires and an Evans Hazy 300 bottom snare head. I've decided to upgrade my Acrolite snare, as it's an early 1970s model and still has the original bottom head and snare wires, not to mention the P85 throw off, which I've never really liked. (I've replaced the batter head a couple of times - the current one is a Remo Ambassador.)
Earlier this year I gave the same upgrade to my Ludwig Clear Vistalite snare, also 1970s vintage, and it sounds 100% better than it did with the original equipment. I'm hoping for the same with my Acrolite.
Not much, but as I said, I don't need much at this stage of my life. Besides, I'm easy to please. So what's on your Christmas wish list?

Haw! Don't get me started. Musically? Well, I'm sort of looking forward to a second snare at this point. And the one I'm looking at is a Tama 14x6 Bubinga with cast rims. Other than that, I already have my second set of double pedals so that I have one for the teaching studio and the new ones (Falcons) for live playing. So I'm pretty well set to go. Can't think of anything else I would want or need, musically anyway.

New Gibraltar throne. I can't make it past two hours on the old one any more. I ordered a new one yesterday; so technically, this is a present I'm buying for myself.

Gear-wise? I'm still hoping that one of these days, the sleigh will arrive with a 26" pre-serial Paiste 602, but I'm not holding my breath.
Outside of that particular White Whale, I don't really have anything I'm pining for. I'm actually finding myself using the same one or two snare drums, and basically the same set of cymbals, for all of my gigs these days - which for some bizarre reason I find mildly unsettling...

Electric skillets.. that's practical! When I told my hairstylist I was getting my wife a set of pots and pans for Xmas last year she practically raked me over the coals. She said what she really wants is some fine jewelery... Good thing I didn't mention the oak laundry hamper I bought her the year before!
In any case, the only thing I really need are decent sticks - and a lot of them - at a cheap price! I'm tired of breaking my $15 Vic Virths every gig or on average every couple of weeks. This is a recent phenomenon.. either I'm hitting harder or they don't make them the way they used to.. maybe weak trees? (from the movie 'The Money Pit'!). Anyone know of good deals on great sticks that don't break the bank?

WISH list includes a set of Sonor Jungle drums "just because." WANT list is a few Hand Hammered cymbals to complete my set; another crash, a China, and a set of hats. NEED? Nothing really.

Tea Bag: I've gone back to Regal tip 9As after some time with the company you mentioned and a side trip to Vater. L&M are selling Regal 9As for 8.60 a pair right now down here so I imagine it's the same everywhere in Canada. I find that the pricing for RegalTip is better than pretty well all the others and they hold together pretty well. Like you I'm tired of 12.00 plus stick pairs blowing up or wearing out quickly, the latter of which is basically what I do to sticks rather than breaking them although I have had the odd Firth actually self-combust in my hands.

Thanks.. I'll check them out... I've seen some other sticks advertised for $8/pair: Los Cabos (Hickory), $7/pair Headhunters (maple) and the Regals here range from 9 to 11$ for nylon tips.

Like Roger, I'm back with Regal Tips. I use the John "JR" Robinson model. I have a pair of Headhunters on my couch that I used for 1 set and couldn't deal with them slipping out of my hand. In fact, the Regal's are the only ones that offer a finish that I can hold on to. I've recently come across a dip that I'm going to try on the truckload of Los Cabos I still have, but other than that, I'm a Regal Tip fan all the way.

any evidence that regal tips these days are better as far as being matched and warpage?
