Thanks again Roger (and I'm not forgetting my other two friends ie. 'the crunchy one who tastes good with ketchup and thereby does not meddle in the affairs of dragons thus avoiding their advances': also 'he who gives drums to the children of his adversaries') for, clearly, vital information (who brought Steve Smith into this?).
I'm late coming back cos' there's a lot of info' here for me to digest, plus time to investigate.
Kick pad? I know nothing about, but am investigating.
You're not suggesting a kickport for both heads (ie. front and back) are you?
Also, are you saying coated is essential for the batter head?
Don't know what you mean when you say 'narrow ring in the tray'.

Kick pad: An attachable pad that the mallet head hits on the batter head (saves scuffing and ultimately going through the batter and with the right pad gives superior accoustics of impact). Kickport: Designed specifically for the resonant front head of a bass drum (see www.kickport.com web site) Coated: Not essential to a bass drum head front or batter. Depends on what sound you want from your bass. Narrow ring in tray: EMadd bass drum batters all carry ability to use a choice of two foam rings. One narrow and one wide to get rid of unwanted overtones and give you more control over your sound.
I suggest you spend some time looking at both the kickport and the Evans web sites to check out both the kickport and the EMadd bass drum heads.
