I'm sorry I can't be of more help, but my only experience with anything related to the instruments you listed was back in college (1984-88), when we had a set of the Bergerault bells with a damper system. They sounded great, and the pedal system worked fine. They never left the music building, so I can't really comment on the portability issue.

I haven't played any recent Bergerault instruments, but back then, they made a really nice set of bells.
