Flam. That's what I do and this post reminds me I have to weigh my Sidewinder and send the weight to Steve Croteau, the maker. Seems he needs to know what my particular Baby weighs. Here in Canada they have been metric for some time now so there is no problem with all that stuff. But getting back to the original theme of this post. I usually do weigh my cymbals, because then I know which ones to use for what show or style of Music. Back a few years ago I had to keep seven sets of cymbals and also ten snares in cases and bags along with God knows how many different types of heads because I was always being called by a number of different bands and shows as well as doing a pile of recording, especially for demo recordings for different artists. Now I am fined down to one recording project which is an on-going affair of ten years and one good band. So basically I keep a full set of cymbals with several alternates and only two snares, one of which I practically never use any more. I don't worry about the rides because they are basically both part of my personal sound. However I do mess around with different sizes and weights of crashes and splashes depending on the rooms or the recording we are working on that week.At least my drum space doesn't look like a drum rental warehouse anymore. It does look a bit like a head factory at times though. That is basically a whole "nother" thread though. I do recommend to anyone that they should know the weights of their cymbals though if for nothing more than knowing all they can about the gear they are playing. I might also add that if you tend to keep your cymbals clean all the time you should be aware of the fact that constant cymbal cleaner applications can actually, after a few years, cause your cymbals to become a little lighter. That of course can change their sound a bit. I tend to clean my cymbals only when I can actually hear them stray from the sound I expect from them and not how they look. My cymbals always look like they almost need a clean but still don't look too "scuzzy".
