Buying a Vibraphone

Hello!
My experience with the vibes in big band and also in a smaller combo have been awesome, so awesome that i'm inspired to buy a vibraphone.
The purpose for this vibraphone right now is home practice specially during the summer when i'm away from school.
I currently own a 4.3 octave Vancore Performers Series Marimba which is great for practicing.
I was thinking currently I would like the vibraphone for practice, but I can really see myself bringing it all over the place for gigs etc..
I've also looked at the MalletKAT's as an option, most for the portability and the ease of practicing anywhere, however looking down the road to bring go and play at different places I'm leaning towards a real vibraphone.
The Lowest quality price is prefered, if an extra couple hundred bucks is worth it, it's worth it, but i'm not looking for the best vibraphone ever.
Also what are you're thoughts on the standard 3 octave vibes, is it enough?
thaks alot,
Joe
