It seems clear that you have both the sellers and buyers breaking the law. Clearly there is little or no enforcement of these laws. Maybe the government officials were watching porn, like the SEC, when they should have been watching what the recyclers were shipping to China. Perhaps they could write a bunch of new laws and create new departments to study this problem. This after all is what government excels in! Sure they'll gift wrap it in sincerity with the main goal to garner votes and good will. Then they could create more departments to study the efficiency and effects of the first department. This could be a great thing.....creating jobs, government jobs, to study why bad people do bad things. After 4 or 5 years they would probably come to one conclusion.....it was Bush's fault. The study would find Cheney and Halliburton along with Goldman Sachs all profited directly and obscenely at the expense of poor Chinese children. We could then have the political elite schedule some show trials and dress down these evil capitalists....it's all for show of course as those that conduct the trials are all in bed with those they question , but we don't really want to dwell on that! At the end of the show trial, our political elite could snap into action and create a new a special tax on recycling all old electronics when you purchase them new! This would make the people feel good and very green! Another special feature of electronics reform, would be a reparations tax on all Americans to go directly to the people working at the Hong Kong dump. The beauty of this, is the creation of more government departments to manage and distribute the reparations funds. This thing could be as good as Cap and trade!
And now for something completely different, reality. Federal agencies like the SEC, FDA, EPA, USDA, CPSC, DOL, DOI, etc. etc. don't do what they were created by Congress to do because, since Ronald Reagan, they've been headed by the lawyers and CEO's of the same industries they are supposed to be regulating.
It's called capitalist corruption of government. 777Dumb has never heard of it. He just knows what he hears on Fox Noise and repeats it here for those of us who don't watch Fox Noise. In 777Dumb's world, the unregulated, redistribution of wealth to the top 1/100th of 1% is economic progress! He applauds the Great Republican Depression of 2008 as a monument to the success of free market capitalism! And he's right. That's exactly what it is.
