Drum Tuning using a Head Tension tool

I recently purchased a new snare that has thick plastic washers on the tuning lugs and it made tuning by lug tension difficult for me so I picked up a tool that measures head tension. It came with a gauge for setting the tool 3/4 an inch from each tuning lug and frankly, it was the fastest I ever tuned a drum and I did it with minimal rattat-tat with the sticks, which greatly pleased the rest of the guys in the band. With the rest of the kit ( bought new in 1992 ) it went very quickly as most lugs were pretty close but not one drum was spot on the same head tension at each lug position. It took 30 minutes to do the 5 piece kit and then last night I played my 4 piece road kit and retuned it in about 15 minutes. Getting equal head tension at each lug position really makes a big difference in the sound of a drum but ultimately, it all comes down to your "Ears"; the tool just gives you a quick precise starting point. I listed the tool in the other section but thought this "Method" of drum tuning might help some of you cats.
