I just got mine and used it to tune up an old Chrome snare that had never sounded good---until today. Roger put me onto this unique little tool and when you see it, you will shake your head in dis-belief...BUT, trust me...it works like MAGIC. You place this small item on the center of whatever drum your tuning. Its best to have the drum sitting on your lap, so the bottom head will be muted as you want to only hear the top head. Once you place it in the middle of the head, you then gently tap with your finger ( I used a pencil I had lying around ) about 3/4 to 1 inch from each tuning rod. If none of them have the same tone, Pick One as your base tone...then tune all the rest of them to the same exact pitch. Flip the drum over and do the opposite head. My preference is to use the Drum Dial in cases where the drum is way out of tune, brand new out of tune and new head replacents. Once the head tension is pretty well equal according to the Dial...then using the Woolee will be a snap. The "WOOLEE" is simply a 3" round circle of Sheep Skin with the wool attached. You place the SKIN side down on the center of the drum. The weight of the Woolee is just enough to mute the harmonics enough so you can more easily hear the fundemental tone of the drum. A drum key and an ear that hears tones is all you need from here on. I had that chrome snare tensioned correctly with the Dial...it took about 15 minutes to Fine Tune both heads and the drum sounds Marvelous. You can pick this up from: Steve's Drum Shop 908 East Ermina Spokane, WA 99207 Phone= 509-362-8664 Cost= $10.00 US Funds
I have pics of it on MYSPACE.com Follow the URL
