Hammering a cymbal

I dug out this old China cymbal that I've had lying around for a long time. It's a piece of *@#! that I got at a garage sale for about $5 and never really used. The rim is a bit bent here and there but it doesn't sound too horrible - in fact it sounds different depending on where you hit the rim!
In any case, I was wondering what would happen if I took a hammer too it, or at least bent it back into shape. It's Pearl CX-### which I'm guessing by looking at as one of those cheapy stamped brass/zinc alloys. So even if the experiment doesn't work out, there's not a lot to lose.
I suspect I can bend it back into shape, but as far as getting a better sound out of it? Has anyone tried this before?
